Episode Transcription

Welcome to the five-minute catch up my name is Kate Aigner from the Primary Care Team, and this is your weekly Check-up.

In this week’s podcast, we’ll be talking about monkeypox, the new sepsis standard of care, changes from the 1 July including: cervical screening self-collection, telehealth restrictions, the National Diabetes Services Scheme expansion and PPE bundles, as well as upcoming events.

To start things off, the ACT Chief Health Officer has updated the health alert for Monkeypox and is urging practitioners to be vigilant for signs and symptoms of monkey pox particularly in patients who have the following epidemiological risk factors in the 21 days prior to symptom onset: Overseas travel; Sexual and/or other physical intimate contact with a gay, bisexual or other man who has sex with men; or contact with an individual known to have monkeypox infection.

Practitioners are also reminded that as of 28 May 2022, Monkeypox is a notifiable condition in the ACT and clinicians must immediately notify ACT Health if they identify or suspect that a patient has monkeypox. Links to the alert and further information are available below.

The first national care standard on sepsis was released on 30 June. This new standard of care will help to ensure sepsis is recognised early and patients receive coordinated, best-practice care to reduce the risk of death or ongoing morbidity. A link to the new standard can be found below.
