Welcome to the five-minute catch up my name is Kate Aigner from the Quality Improvement Team, and this is your weekly Check-up.
In this week’s podcast we’ll talk about the PROPHECY research project, ATAGI vaccination recommendations, Monkeypox resources, obesity research, CHN education events and more.
To start things off, in COVID news, the Department of Health and Aged Care has announced investment in the PROPHECY research project, led by researchers at Monash University, to evaluate the immune response to COVID-19 vaccination and infection in children and high-risk populations, including adults with chronic conditions. The research will receive $6.3 million in funding towards COVID-19 treatment access and public health activity research.
ATAGI has published its updated recommendations on the use of a third primary dose of COVID-19 vaccine in individuals who are severely immunocompromised. The update includes recommendations for children aged 6 months and older, as well as recommendations on the use of the Nuvaxovid COVID-19 vaccine. See the link below for details.
Now a monkeypox update, there are now 134 cases (confirmed and probable) of monkeypox in Australia. A collection of key research on monkeypox and other types of orthopoxvirus such as smallpox, as well as resources examining the stigma of disease and the role of media and communication during health crises is now available and can be found in the link below.
Onto practice nursing and APNA is seeking experienced practice nurses interested in becoming mentors for the October intake of their Transition to Practice Program. Nurses who are keen to become clinical and professional nurse mentors are provided with resources and templates to work with individuals and small groups across the 12-month program. To be eligible, nurses must work in the ACT and have been in primary health care for more than four years. The link to apply is available below.
Now it’s time for the titbits…
Finally, upcoming CHN events include the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Training event for primary care professionals and their staff.
