Episode Transcription

Welcome to the five-minute catch up my name is Greta Welin from the Quality Improvement Team, and this is your weekly Check-up.

In this week’s podcast we’ll talk about our new QuIK Library resource, Digital health team and HealthPathways team updates, as well as the National low back pain clinical care standards, vaccine news, new resources and upcoming CHN Education events.

To start things off, we’d like to introduce our latest QuIK Library resource, Cancer Screening. Now available in the QuIK Library, linked below.

Each QuIK Library resource includes quality improvement concepts, which can be used to create QuIK Cycles, a Plan-Do-Study-Act quality improvement activity, which practices can opt in to develop with us. Our Quality Improvement team will support your practice to successfully complete the QI activity and meet the RACGP requirements for GP CPD points.

Our QI Team here at Capital Health Network can also come to your practice for a QuIK Visit, a 30-minute practice visit. Part of our role is to support you to access and understand your practice data, to make it useful for you to use for continuous quality improvement. Our QuIK Visits are a time for us to discuss how your practice does continuous quality improvement now and how we can assist you in the future. It is also a good time for you to ask questions we may be able to answer or find the answer to.

For further information on the Cancer screening QuIK Library or to arrange a QuIK Visit get in contact with us at primarycare@chnact.org.au

Did you know our Digital Health team here at Capital Health Network can assist your practice with any digital health issues? This might include electronic prescriptions, HealthLink Smart forms, secure messaging, My Health Record and more. Get in contact with the team via email at primarycare@chnact.org.au

Our HealthPathways team has been hard at work creating and updating Pathways. New Pathways include Paediatric continence referrals, Mitochondrial disease, and Rare and undiagnosed genetic conditions. Updated Pathways include COVID-19 Vaccination, Medications in pregnancy and breastfeeding and Urinary tract infection in children. To view these Pathways and others, visit the link below. As part of the ongoing ACT & SNSW HealthPathways Dementia Project the team will be facilitating accredited education events in 2023. They are looking for your input on the topic areas within dementia care that are of most interest to you in your profession.  They have created a short survey, just 10 questions, to collect your feedback. The link to the survey and some further information is available below.

A few weeks ago, we announced an exciting opportunity for nurses new to primary care. Capital Health Network in partnership with APNA, are supporting nurses in the ACT who are new or transitioning to general practice nursing, to complete APNA’s Transition to Practice Program. We are now accepting applications through the link below.

The National Low Back Pain Clinical Care Standard will be launched on September 1st. Low back pain is the second most common reason for presentation to GPs, and this standard will provide guidance to clinicians, including GPs, ED clinicians and other community-based clinicians, and health service organisations on how to actively manage low back pain to reduce disability. See the webcast link below.

Now it’s time for the titbits…

Finally, there are exciting Capital Health Network Education events coming up including the Care Finder Co-designed workshop on 5th September, Monkeypox Vaccine Update on 6th September, Canberra Scripts on 15th September and more. Further information can be found in the links below.

And that wraps up your weekly check-up. Did you know that Capital Health Network is always available to answer your queries? If you have any questions about any of the information in this podcast, get in contact with us via email at primarycare@chnact.org.au

On behalf of everyone here at Capital Health Network through the ACT’s PHN Program we thank you for tuning in and we’ll see you next Thursday for your next Check-up.
