Episode Transcription

Welcome to the five-minute catch up my name is Kate Aigner from the Quality Improvement Team, and this is your weekly Check-up.

In this week’s podcast we’ll talk about Moderna’s bivalent COVID-19 vaccine, new nasal combination self-tests, Living with COVID PPE bundles, updated HealthPathways, our Practice Connect networking event, CHN educational events and more.

To start things off, the TGA has approved the Moderna Spikevax Bivalent Original/Omicron BA.1 vaccine for use as a booster dose in people aged 18 years and older. This vaccine can be used as an alternative for any booster dose in people aged 18 years or older under the ATAGI recommendations for booster doses. Further information is in the links below.

The TGA has also approved two nasal combination self-tests which detect both COVID-19 and influenza, A and B, viral infections in people and are similar to other COVID-19 rapid antigen tests. The TGA anticipates that the suppliers of these combination tests will make them available for consumers to buy through pharmacies, supermarkets or online. See the link below for more information.

Access to Living with COVID PPE Bundles has also been extended. They are now available until 31 December 2022, there is a link below to our website where you can find the order forms.

Here at Capital Health Network we support Primary Care in many ways. Did you know our Digital Health team can assist your practice with any digital health issues? This might include electronic prescriptions, HealthLink Smart forms, secure messaging, My Health Record and more. Get in contact with the team via email at primarycare@chnact.org.au.

Our HealthPathways team has been hard at work updating Pathways. These include obesity management referrals, chronic disease management items, Alcohol dependency and management, and Opioid dependence. To view these Pathways and others, visit the link below. As part of the ongoing ACT & SNSW HealthPathways Dementia Project the team will be facilitating accredited education events in 2023. They are looking for your input on the topic areas within dementia care that are of most interest to you in your profession.  They have created a short survey, just 10 questions, to collect your feedback. The link to the survey and some further information is available below.

Now it’s time for the titbits…

Finally, other upcoming CHN events include the COVID Care@Home Clinical Update – Specialists webinar on 20 September. And all primary healthcare providers and their staff are invited to attend the upcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Awareness Training event. This free, face-to- face training event will be held on 25 October at The Glasshouse, Pialligo Estate. Links to register for both these events can be found below.

And that wraps up your weekly check-up. Did you know that Capital Health Network is always available to answer your queries? If you have any questions about any of the information in this podcast, get in contact with us via email at primarycare@chnact.org.au
